Tips for Choosing a Minecraft Username

Stay Inside 3-16 Characters
Minecraft Java rejects anything shorter than three or longer than sixteen characters. Aim for eight to twelve: long enough to be unique, short enough to read in a crowded chat log.

Only Letters, Numbers and Underscores
No spaces, no hyphens, no punctuation. If a name you love needs a space, close it up or split it with an underscore - Deep_Delve reads better than DeepDelve at a glance.

Skip the Number Suffix
Trailing digits are the clearest sign the name was someone else's first. Change a word instead: EmberForge beats Ember2481, and it is no harder to type.

People will /msg you, /tp to you and add you to teams by typing your name. Ambiguous letter pairs like I and l, or O and 0, cost you messages every session.
